Tako Koning, Director of Partnerships
Tako Koning serves as Director of Partnerships for the Calgary Justice Film Festival (CJFF) and is focused mainly on fundraising from the business community. He is also a member of the team which organizes CJFF’s Peace Market. He has been a member of CJFF’s board since 2017.
Tako is Holland-born and Alberta-raised with B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Alberta and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Calgary. He worked as a petroleum geologist and exploration manager for five decades which included thirty years living and working in Indonesia, Nigeria and Angola. During his life in the oil industry, he was also highly involved as a volunteer with professional societies, humanitarian organizations, and was a long-time board member of the Sonshine Centre, a women’s shelter in Calgary.
Tako has always been concerned about justice issues, both globally and locally and for that reason he has been a long-time volunteer for CJFF. He is a member of River Park Church which for nineteen years from 2004 to 2023 kindly, freely and unconditionally hosted CJFF and its predecessor organization, the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival.
