Steven Crowchild, Tsuut’ina Nation

We are so pleased to welcome Steven Crowchild, who will host our Opening Night ceremonies and several of the films that evening. Steven, also known as Ninagha Naʔitsidi, is a father and a member of the Tsuut’ina Nation. His work has long centred on the Tsuut’ina language and on education. He worked with the Tsuut’ina Gunaha Institute from 2012, serving as its Director from 2014 to 2018, and helped develop projects such as a language app, culture camps, a language nest, and animation and film. He then coordinated education service agreements for the Tsuut’ina Education Department.

In 2019, Steven was elected to the Tsuut’ina Nation Chief and Council, where he served as a Minor Chief and sat on the Education Board, and he is now a community leader, both on and off reserve. In June 2025, he addressed world leaders in the Tsuut’ina language, in full regalia, as part of the G7 welcome in Alberta, sharing a message of peace and the protection of water.
