Peter Driftmier | Bow Valley Green Energy Cooperative Member

Peter Driftmier is a member and investor with the Bow Valley Green Energy Cooperative (BVGEC), a community-owned organization developing renewable energy projects in Alberta. He also supports Alberta’s other renewable energy co-ops, promoting cooperative models that bring community investment to local clean energy.

With a Master’s in Social Work, Peter works as a mental health therapist supporting refugee and immigrant youth. As a human rights activist and community organizer, he helped found YYC For A Green New Deal, helped lead the 2019 University of Calgary Climate Strike, and campaigned with groups like the Sierra Club.

Peter’s work aligns with The Darkness, which highlights how communities can reclaim power and resilience through collective renewable energy efforts. His passion for community-led energy reflects the film’s message of turning challenges into empowerment.

CJFF is excited to have Peter co-present with Jared Blustein of Calgary Climate Hub, sharing his valuable perspective at this year’s screening.
