Marda Loop Justice Film Festival is now Calgary Justice Film Festival

Good Films. Do Good.

We have a new name and a new look, but we are pursuing the very same vision: a just future for all.

We are here to influence positive behavioral change by sharing environmental and social justice films that inspire and engage neighbors to become global citizens.

Dear neighbours,

On September 10, 2021, the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival officially changed our operational name to the Calgary Justice Film Festival. We didn’t take this change lightly, and we have been working hard over the past few years to gather feedback from the community of supporters, volunteers, and members to ensure this is the right step for the Festival.

We’ve grown.

The name change and rebrand are needed to accommodate the growth of the Festival. Over the past 15 years, we have grown from a 2-day film festival to a week-long film festival with multiple in-year film screenings. Our team of volunteers involves more than 20 dedicated individuals who work tirelessly year-round to select, promote, and bring in quality guest speakers to our screenings. In 2019, we brought in over 4,300 attendees from all over Calgary to our documentary screenings; and in 2020, we adapted and expanded our reach to all concerned residents across Alberta. However, we believe our impact could be bigger, and the great brand of Calgary can definitely widen our reach for the important work that we do.

What’s new?

While we are proud of the Festival’s origin in the wonderful neighbourhood of Marda Loop, we have long served the community of Calgary and surrounding areas. The need to grow our impact led us to make the decision to take on more responsibility with our new name: Calgary Justice Film Festival.

Together with the new name, we are embracing a new refreshing logo and a new look to further strengthen our brand.

The candle represents light in the dark similar to how our documentaries and conversations shed light and bring education on environmental and social justice issues.

What’s stayed the same?

Our vision. Our mission. Our slogan, “Good Films. Do Good”.

The Calgary Justice Film Festival will continue to deliver current, eye-opening, and candid documentaries from Canadian and international filmmakers to shed light on environmental and social justice issues.

We will continue to inspire meaningful action and change through post-screening discussions and communication channels that connect the audience with topic-relevant groups.

We are committed to fostering a community for our audience to engage in conversations around relevant environmental and social justice issues and to take action.

What’s next?

We will continue to further our mission of a just future for all! Help us spread the message by:

  • Sharing how CJFF has made an impact on you on our Impact Stories page or on your social media with the hashtag #GoodFilmsDoGood

  • Donating so that we can continue to provide free documentaries to Calgarians and Albertans

  • Volunteering with us and being a part of the movement!

Regards,

Lily Cai, Board Chair
