Natalia Cortes, Interdisciplinary Artist
Natalia Cortes is a Colombian-Canadian interdisciplinary artist creating, directing and performing across Canada’s vast, magnificent landscapes and creative hubs. Currently working in Calgary, AB, her practice weaves sound, movement, exploration-based ensemble creation, puppetry, and design into devised, community-inspired theatrical experiences. She studied formally with George Brown Theatre School and over the years has collaborated with companies such as Theatre Gargantua, River Clyde Arts, Green Fools Theatre Society and others building a unique approach as a multidisciplinary creator. Furthermore she independently creates her own work through her theatre group The Memorias Collective. Most recently she was one of four selected artists that participated in Downstage Theatre’s ‘2026 Stage It Festival’, exploring the intersection of community stories, climate events and multi-media storytelling through the show Four Strong Seasons. At the heart of Natalia’s practice is a profound calling to create spaces where artists and community members come together to explore complex social issues through creative expression. In her work she aims to honour the lived experiences and stories of those within her communities, placing as much value on the shared creative process as the work itself. Through this, she seeks to foster connection, collective discovery and unity through creating theatre! Upcoming projects include The Vikings premiering November 11th at Common Grounds Festival. Furthermore her creative explorations have recently extended into the outdoors through experiential programs with Outward Bound Canada and VanCity Movement.
