Kwesi Sackey, Visual Artist
“Art is Life; therefore, I choose to be part of it.”
Kwesi Sackey is a young Ghanaian artist from Elmina, in Ghana’s Central Region, a historic fishing town near one of the first forts built on what became known as the Gold Coast.
Growing up, Kwesi learned from older generations, whose daily lives and creative practices inspired his passion for art. Their work, particularly painting and weaving, portrays Ghanaian culture, historical and scenic places, fish markets, festivals, clothing, and everyday life.
Most of his artworks tell stories that connect the past with the present. Through exhibitions, schools, and community engagement, he shares his artistic talents, educates young people, and promotes Ghana’s cultural heritage.
His artworks have attracted collectors and visitors. He continues to create art that inspires others while preserving the traditions and stories of Elmina, his birthplace.
Kwesi believes art is a powerful way to express identity, inspire creativity, and bring communities, relatives, and strangers together through a shared sense of connection.
“This is my belief, my truth. Peace.”
