Jared Blustein | Executive Director of Calgary Climate Hub

Jared was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, and from a young age fell in love with the foothills, prairies and mountains. He became involved in activism and the nonprofit sector after witnessing the interconnected impacts of Indigenous land dispossession, socio-economic injustice, and human-driven climate change. After completing a graduate degree in 2017, he co-founded The Allium Restaurant and Bodega Worker Cooperative, which closed in the summer of 2023. Jared brings years of climate-focused nonprofit experience and recently joined Calgary Climate Hub as their Executive Director.

His work and passion align closely with the themes of The Darkness: Lessons on Solar Energy & Community Power, which explores how communities are taking charge of their energy futures through renewable and cooperative solutions. CJFF is thrilled to welcome Jared as he co-presents alongside Peter Driftmier at this year’s screening, bringing valuable insights on community-driven climate action.
